Frequently asked Questions

What does a ton or a yard cover?

How do I calculate how much stone, sand or mulch I need?

How big is a a yard of top soil?

image21

One ton of 3/4" stone  or sand covers approximately 100 sq. ft.  at 2" deep.  The larger the stone the less square footage per ton. For example 2"-4" Pearl Pebbles will only cover about 60 sq. ft.

One yard of mulch or topsoil covers 150 sq. ft. at 2" thick.

Measure your length and your width and multiple them together.  Then take the sum and divide by 100 for tons or 150 for yards.  The sum will is the number of yards or tons you need at 2" deep.  Still have questions?  Simply send an email to emailklk@aol.com or click below.

Our screened topsoil and our organic super topsoil are run through the same 1/2" screener.  If you are building up your yard or grading and using anything thicker than 2" you should always use screened topsoil.  When raked out, seeded, watered daily and hay is applied you should get a green lawn in less than three weeks.  Organic topsoil is great for planting, spot seeding, grading or skim coating 2" or less and of course for gardens.  This compost keeps your seed and plants moist and promotes better growth.  But it is organic and will continue to break down over time which is why we don't recommend more than 2 inches.

How big are you delivery trucks?

We have many sized trucks.  But we use an F550 to deliver mulch less than 12 yards and topsoil and tonnage material less than 5 tons.  Larger loads come on tandems or triaxles pictured above.
